Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson doesn’t have too many injury worries to think about for the visit of Martin O’Neill’s Sunderland, and he even has a number of boosts as the buoyant but injury-stricken Premier League side travel to London Road.

Lee Frecklington (groin) looks set to miss out while Grant McCann remains touch-and-go, however Lee Tomlin has been made available once again after a calf strain and on-loan trio Ryan Tunnicliffe, Scott Wooton (both on temporary deals from Manchester United) and Josh Thompson (Celtic) have all been granted permission to play.

Nicky Ajose will not be available to play despite returning from his loan at Scunthorpe as the Red Devils academy graduate is cup-tied, while 15 year-old Jaanai Gordon-Hutton could get a place on the bench.

O’Neill and his Black Cats have considerably more injuries to contend with as several first-team members look likely to miss the tie with their manager unwilling to risk them.

Wes Brown (groin), Titus Bramble (Achilles/calf), Phil Bardsley (thigh), Jack Colback (ankle) and Connor Wickham are all highly doubtful for the match, but O’Neill has a few other concerns too.

Keiren Westwood and Seb Larsson both missed the 4-1 midweek victory over Wigan due to illness, but could return on Sunday. Craig Gordon and Michael Turner both turned out for the team’s reserves during the week but are lacking match fitness, while Faizer Campbell has only just returned to training.

    Martin O’Neill (pictured, right) last managed a team in the FA Cup match almost two years ago. He was in charge of Aston Villa back in April 2010, a 3-0 home defeat to Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea.

    The Black Cats were knocked out of the competition at this stage last season by Notts County.

    The two sides have not met in a competitive match since March 1994.
